Azerbaijani parliament adopted a law On ensuring the uniformity of measurements during the plenary session on Tuesday.

Legislation in this area is not in line with international requirements today, head of the State Service of Metrology of the State Committee for Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan Oktay Abbasov said earlier.

"The contradictions with international law create some problems for the development of economic relations with other countries, especially in trade. Documents of international organizations were used and recommendations of the European experts were taken into account during the preparation of the bill," Abbasov said.

The new law will specify areas, which are subject to state regulation in the field of metrology, as well as areas where there is not need in it.

"The law creates a good environment for the private sector in this area, simplifies the process of supervision over it," Abbasov said.

The adoption of such a law is important in terms of Azerbaijan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The current law in this area was adopted in 2000 and regulates the development, manufacture, inspection, testing, maintenance, repair, sales, import and export of measuring instruments.

The uniformity of measurements - a condition of measurement, in which the results are expressed in accepted units and the measurement error are within the established boundaries.
