Charges for mobile operator subscriber numbers increase in Uzbekistan

Charges for the use of subscriber numbers by organisations rendering mobile communications services have increased by 25 per cent from 400 to 500 soums in Uzbekistan starting January 1, 2013.

Charges for the use of subscriber numbers by organisations rendering mobile communications services have increased by 25 per cent from 400 to 500 soums in Uzbekistan starting January 1, 2013.

This was provided by presidential decree 'On the forecast of key macroeconomic indicators and parameters of Uzbekistan's state budget for 2013'.

Fees are charged for each number assigned to subscribers by a mobile communications company for the valid contract period for mobile service provision.

According to the decree, 70 per cent of the funds received will be sent to the state budget, while 30 per cent will go to the State Committee for Communications, Information and Telecommunication Technologies with their targeted use to finance investment projects and programmes in the information and telecommunications network development.

Charges for use of subscriber numbers were introduced starting January 1, 2012.
Today the number of mobile subscribers in Uzbekistan exceeds 25 million, while the number of Internet users stands at 7.9 million, with over 4.27 million using the mobile Internet.

Four mobile operators currently operate in Uzbekistan: Unitel (Beeline, GSM), Coscom (UCell, GSM), Perfectum Mobile (Rubicon Wireless Communication, CDMA) and a branch of Uzbektelecom Mobile (Uzmobile, CDMA).

The official exchange rate on January 3 is 1985.46 soum / $ 1.
