Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Feb. 18 /. Trend, H. Hasanov /

The Government of Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of standardization, metrology, certification and accreditation in Ashgabat, an official Turkmen source said.

In November 2012, the Turkmen President approved the project "Order of certification of products imported from foreign countries".

Certification is carried out by the large state service "Turkmenstandartlari", which is a member of the International Organization for Standardization since 1993.

Turkmenistan is introducing international standards of ISO-9000. Certificates corresponding to this quality system have already been received by enterprises of significant export-oriented industries such as those in textiles, chemical production and oil-refining.

In addition, the "Turkmenstandartlari" is an independent expert service that assesses the quality of agricultural products, especially grain and cotton. Now, the improvement of labor protections and mineral resources, legislative and regulatory standards, and the expansion of international cooperation is underway to eliminate trade barriers for products manufactured in the country. An electronic database is being created.
