During the last 10 years Azerbaijan has increased its budget expenditures on public health more than 12.5 times. Over 500 medical facilities have been built or repaired during this period. As a result, life expectancy increased and maternal and infant mortality reduced, Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh said during a discussion of the government report on the results of the previous year in Parliament on Friday.

According to him, in 2012 the reconstruction of health care facilities and use of advanced technologies continued. The material and technical basis of educational institutions was strengthened and introduction of information technologies in the spheres of public health and education was accelerated.

"In 2012 the development of projects on the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems with their gradual implementation was started in all regions of the country. Implementation of major infrastructure projects in the transport sector were carried out and decisive steps for the creation of informing society in the country were taken. Major investments were made towards the sphere of technologies," Rasizadeh said.

According to him special attention during the reporting period was paid to strengthening the energy security of the country and continuing its oil strategy.

"Important projects are being implemented on expanding the efficiency of generating facilities, construction and reconstruction of power lines and substations in distribution systems. Ratification of the TANAP agreement by Azerbaijan and participation in some other projects will enhance the country's role in Europe's natural gas supply," the PM stated.
