Azerbaijan, Baku, May 7 / Trend H.Valiyev /
Wheat production in Azerbaijan is expected to comprise at least 2.8 million tons in 2013, the Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov said on Tuesday.
"Although previously before the maximum output was predicted at this level, now according to the information received from the regions and the ministry officers assigned to the regions, the figure is believed to be higher this year," the minister said.
Despite this, according to the minister, Azerbaijan's dependence on imports will still remain.
"Wheat is not only food wheat, but also used as fodder. By the president's order we have started working on creating large farms. In the future we will be able to fully provide ourselves with all kinds of agricultural products, including wheat for food," the minister said.
