The General Inspection Organization of Iran has indicted deputy president Hamid Baqaee of awarding a major contract without bidding and with no legal framework to a private company

The organization has issued a statement on its website and has announced that Hamid Baqaee has ordered a presidential aide to award the contract, worth €450 million, for establishing a conference hall in Kish Island to a private company.

It should be noted that €450 million equals 20 trillion rials (about $1.6 billion based on official rate dollar of 12,260 rials).

According to the report, Baqaee had issued the order in 2010, when he was the secretary of the supreme council of free zones. The private company had been established just four days before the contract awarded to it, the inspection organization said.

The General Inspection Organization is affiliated to the judiciary system and is tasked with inspecting violations of law by ministries and state-run organizations.

The organization's head Mostafa Pourmohammadi, who is a critic of the administration of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had unearthed the €450 million violation case in a TV program.
