Georgian construction sector grows 1.7 times in fourth quarter 2012

In the fourth quarter of 2012, the turnover of the construction sector in Georgia grew by 1.7 times to about 1.197 million lari, National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) reported on Monday.

According to report, the turnover of the construction sector by size of enterprises is as follows: large companies - 79.2 percent, medium-sized companies - 15 percent, small businesses - 5.8 percent.

During the reporting period the volume of construction products increased by 1.7 times amounting to 1.191 billion lari. The increase by size of enterprises was as follows: large companies - 79.1 percent, medium-sized companies - 15 percent, small businesses - 5.8 percent.

67,135 people were occupied in the construction sector of Georgia in the fourth quarter of 2012, increasing by 58.3 percent compared to the same period last year. The magnitude of large enterprises amounted to 57.4 percent, medium-sized companies - 27.1 percent, small ones - 15.5 percent.

During the reporting period, the average wage is in the construction sector of Georgia was 1,104.2 lari, which is 5.7 percent more than at the same period in 2011.
