Iran imported 9.122 million tons of goods worth 12.909 billion dollars in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started March 21.

The figures show 26.27 and 27.42 per cent decrease, in terms of weight and value respectively, compared to the same period of time previous year, Iran Customs Administration reported.

Rice (802 million dollars), press cake (641 million dollars), corn (456 million dollars), wheat (400 million dollars), and iron ore (225 million dollars) were the main imported items.

The United Arab Emirates (with 2.447 billion dollars), China (with 2.322 million dollars), India (with 1.322 million dollars), South Korea (with 1.225 million dollars), and Turkey (with 1.099 million dollars) were the main exporters of goods to Iran.

Iran's foreign trade was around 25.445 billion dollars in the first four months of the current year, which started March 21. The country's exports accounted for 12.536 billion dollars of the mentioned amount.

As Iranian media reported, the head of the commission on imports of Iran Chamber of Commerce Majid-Reza Hariri said that over the last 25 days no currency has been allocated for imports of goods and basic products to Iran.

Hariri said that the reason for this lies in disagreement between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Commerce of Iran.

He warned that if the situation does not change, Iran will face severe shortages in basic foodstuffs, feed for livestock and poultry, as well as medicines.
