WB, Azerbaijan identify cooperation directions for 2014

The World Bank (WB) and the Azerbaijani government have identified areas of activity within the last year of the four-year strategy, which expires in mid-2014, the head of Bank's Baku office Larisa Leshchenko told Trend on Thursday.

According to her, the bank intends to continue working in the field of improvement of road and water infrastructure, and also sees the need for new projects.

In addition, the bank started to prepare a new project in the modernization of the judicial system of Azerbaijan.

According to the head of Bank's Baku office, the project is likely to be approved by the Board of Directors of the WB before the end of March 2014.

"In parallel, we are considering new areas of cooperation, discussion of which will begin while preparing the new strategy," Leshchenko told.

Since Azerbaijan joined the World Bank in 1992, the Bank has financed over 50 projects worth more than three billion dollars.
