Iran furniture exports hit $19 million

Iran's furniture exports reached $19 million in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started March 21, Head of Trade promotion organization of Iran Hamid Safdel said on Monday.

Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan were the main the destinations for Iranian furniture, Mehr News Agency quoted Safdel as saying.

"Iran's furniture exports in the previous calendar year stood at $30 million," he said.

Safdel, also deputy minister of industry, mine, and trade, went on to note that the world's furniture trade in 2012 was around $146 billion dollars.

Iran's positive trade balance has reached $20 billion during the last five months, despite huge reduction in both export and import volumes.

Iran's total non-oil exports (including condensates) decreased by 8 percent during the first five months of current solar year, compared to the same period in last year and reached $15.2 billion, while the imports decreased by 26.36 percent and reached $16.3 during the mentioned period of time.

It should also be noted that Iran also suffers from $20 billion worth of illegal smuggling imports and exports annually.
