Kazakh JV produces some 20,000 tons of uranium since beginning of its activity

KATCO LLP JV, a joint subsidiary of the Canadian AREVA and Kazakh Kazatomprom has produced around 20,000 tons of uranium since the beginning of its industrial production in 2005.

KATCO LLP JV, a joint subsidiary of the French AREVA and Kazakh Kazatomprom has produced around 20,000 tons of uranium since the beginning of its industrial production in 2005, Kazatomprom said.

"This figure was reached on Dec.2, less than three years after the production of around 10,000 tons of uranium in March 2011," Kazatomprom said.

KATCO LLP JV was founded in 1996 and became the largest uranium producing enterprise in Kazakhstan. In 2009, it became the world's largest uranium producing enterprise using the method of in-situ leaching (ISL).

The company carries out work on the development and production of uranium at two uranium mines in South Kazakhstan province, using the highest standards for mining with regard to safety and environmental protection. Modern facilities and installations for the production, processing and bagging of several thousand tons of uranium per year are allocated at the mines.

KATCO LLP JV produced more than 3,600 tons of uranium in 2012 and plans to produce around 4,000 tons in 2013.
