Western Kazakhstan's transport and logistics infrastructure will be developed as part of forming the macro-regions on the basis of hubs, the akimat (executive power) of Mangistau region reported with reference to Vice-President of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways) national company Kanat Alpysbayev.

Alpysbayev delivered speech at a meeting with the Minister for Investment and Development Asset Issekeshev in Aktau. The meeting was dedicated to the development of the transport and logistics potential of the western region of the country. It took place on the territory of the Aktau international sea commercial port.

"A number of transport and logistics projects are being implemented in the Mangistau region," Alpysbayev said. "The expansion of the Aktau sea port in the northern direction, the construction of the Borzhakty-Yersai railway line and a ferry complex in the port of Kuryk are among them. Western Kazakhstan's transport and logistics infrastructure will be developed as part of forming the macro-regions on the basis of hubs."

At present, the freight transportation is growing in the direction of the Aktau International Sea Commercial Port and Bolashak border crossing.

"The total volume of freight transportation through Kazakhstan by ships amounted to 10.3 million metric tons in 2014," the statement says. "Around 6.2 million metric tons were transported by trains. After Zhezkazgan-Beineu and Uzen - Bolashak new railway lines were commissioned, freight transportation volumes increased by 10 percent compared to 2013."

Issekeshev reviewed the results of the reconstruction and modernization of KazAzot company's production. It became a participant of the state program of industrialization.

The liquid ammonia, weak nitric acid and ammonium nitrate production equipment was fully reconstructed and modernized in December 2012. This allowed introducing a new technology of ammonium nitrate granulation. As a result, the plant's capacity increased by 50 percent. More than 250,000 metric tons of ammonia, about 450,000 metric tons of nitrogen fertilizers were produced.

The project cost is 5.610 billion tenge ($1 - 182.85 tenge).
