Passenger transportation through TRACECA’s Azerbaijani segment increases

Some 80.9 million passengers were transported via the Eurasian transport corridor through Azerbaijan's territory in January-March 2015 or 7.9 percent more than in the same period of 2014, Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee said in its report.

Some 13.5 million metric tons of cargo were transported via the corridor in January-March 2015 compared to 13.9 million metric tons in the same period of 2014.

Some 54.7 percent of the total volume of transported cargo accounted for the vehicles, 31.4 percent - trains and 13.9 percent - ships, the report said.

The revenues from the cargo transportation via the corridor totaled 130.7 million manats, or 9.1 percent more than in January-March 2014. The revenues from the passenger transportation in January-March hit 30 million manats, or 14.6 percent more than in January-March 2014.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.

The official exchange rate is 1.0471 AZN/USD on May 19.
