Georgia reduces import of construction materials from Azerbaijan

The value of imported construction materials from Azerbaijan to Georgia fell 50 percent from Jan.-Sept. 2015, according to a report issued by the National Statistics Office of Georgia.


The country imported 64,870 tons of gypsum plaster and other anhydrites totaling $8.7 million from Azerbaijan during the reporting period.


Further, the volume of imported construction materials from Azerbaijan to Georgia decreased 39.7 percent, compared to the same period in 2014.


Officials noted that Georgia imported 107,630 tons of construction materials, worth $18.45 million, from Azerbaijan from Jan. -Sept. 2014.


Construction materials accounted for 2.2 percent of the total volume of Azerbaijani exports to Georgia from Jan. - Sept. 2015.


In total, Georgia imported $391.57 million in products from Azerbaijan during the first nine months of 2015, or 13.66 percent less than in the same period in 2014.


Azerbaijan ranks fourth among the countries from which Georgia imports products.


Turkey is the leading country, in terms of the volume of imports to Georgia, valued at $962.9 million (17 percent), followed by China - $447.47 million (7.9 percent) and Russia - $418.3 million (7.4 percent).


Georgia primarily imports gas, petroleum products, electricity and construction materials from Azerbaijan.
