Feasibility study for tens of new hydro power plants are under development in Georgia, said the website of Georgian Energy Ministry.
The largest ones are Oni cascade, Sadmeli hydro power plant and Alpana hydro power plant on the Rioni River and Kheledula 3 hydro power plant on the Kheledula River.
The installed capacity of the Oni cascade is planned to reach 177.2 megawatts, while the expected annual output is 1,200 gigawatt hours.
It is planned to start the construction of the cascade of the power plants in October 2017 and complete in October 2023. Feasibility study of the project should be completed in October 2016. It is planned to invest $330 million in the project.
The design capacities of Sadmeli and Alpana power plants are planned to reach 153 megawatts and 70.6 megawatts, respectively. This is while the expected annual output of these hydro power plants is 637.6 gigawatt hours and 356.8 gigawatt hours, respectively.
It is planned to start the construction of both plants in August 2017 and complete in August 2021. This is while the feasibility study of Sadmeli and Alpana plants is expected to be completed in April 2016.
It is planned to invest $250 million and $117 million in Sadmeli and Alpana plants, respectively.
Further, the design capacity of Kheledula 3 hydro power plant is expected to reach 60.44 megawatts, while the expected annual output - 255.04 gigawatt hours. It is planned to start the construction of the hydro power plant in March 2017 and complete in March 2018.
The feasibility study of the project is expected to be completed in November 2016. It is planned to invest $70 million in the project.
Georgian Energy Ministry plans to increase the electricity generation from 10.96 billion kilowatt hours in 2015 to 15.15 billion kilowatt hours in 2020, 37.67 billion kilowatt hours - 2025 and 50.31 billion kilowatt hours - 2030.
