Iran home appliances output up by 11%

Iran's total home appliances output increased by 11 percent in the first eight months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20 – Nov. 21, 2016), Abbas Hashemi, an official with Iran's industry, mines and trade ministry, said.

Iran produced over 5.5 millions of various home appliances in the 8-month period, Hashemi said, Iran's industry, mines and trade ministry's official SHATA news portal reported.

Over 1.8 million small home appliances, 650,000 air conditioners, 850,000 gas heaters, 900,000 gas ovens, 650,000 refrigerators, 400,000 washing machines and 110,000 sewing machines were produced in Iran in the first 8 months of the current fiscal year, he added.

Iran's refrigerators, washing machine, and sewing machine production increased by 3.2, 2.7, and 2.2 percent, respectively, in the period, meanwhile air conditioner output decreased by 4 percent year-on-year, the official said.

He added that the country’s gas heater and gas oven output also has registered increase by 6.5 and 3.5 percent in the 8-month period.

Over $485 million worth of home appliances were imported to Iran while exports stood at $170 million during the eight months to November 201, 2016, Hashemi said.

The home appliances market in Iran is worth 200 trillion rials (over $4.95 billion at market exchange rate).

Domestic production accounts for only 25 percent of this amount and the rest is dominated by foreign brands, according to the Association of Household Appliances Industries of Iran.
