Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 2

By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

It is necessary to create a mechanism to regulate the pricing policies in hotels of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Tourism Association Nahid Bagirov told Trend Feb. 2.

“Unfortunately, when some of our hotels have an increasing flow of tourists, they begin to raise prices,” Bagirov said. “It is a big problem, since the entire tourism sector of Azerbaijan may suffer because of such hotels.”

He noted that there are countries such as Georgia, where the prices are lower.

At the same time, he added that another mechanism is needed to control the operation of travel agencies.

At the end of 2015, licenses to conduct certain types of business, including tourism, were cancelled in Azerbaijan, he noted. Bagirov said that this stimulates the development of tourism, but on the other hand, the license cancellation has led to some problems.

“Companies providing poor service started to emerge in Azerbaijan,” Bagirov said. “A mechanism that will put forward obligations before them regarding responsibility for services rendered is needed to prevent such cases.”

“Azerbaijan’s image may suffer because of such unscrupulous companies,” he warned.
