Development of a long-term strategy to expand trade and economic ties with Asian countries is important for Kazakhstan, said Maulen Ashimbayev, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Parliament of Kazakhstan.

"It would be expedient for relevant state bodies to formulate a long-term strategy to expand trade and economic ties with Asian countries, including export of Kazakh agricultural products," Ashimbayev said at a meeting in Kazakhstan’s parliament on the country’s foreign policy with the Asian countries, Kazakh media outlets reported.

He stressed that since 2005 more than $250 billion of investments were attracted to the economy of Kazakhstan.

"At the same time, the top ten countries investing in Kazakhstan include only one Asian country - China," the official noted.

He added that it is necessary to intensify efforts for the implementation of 51 production projects, previously defined with China.

"This year we’ve launched 5 projects. The analysis of these projects shows their traditional character. In this regard, it is important to focus on innovative projects with use modern technologies," Ashimbayev said.
