Uzbekistan keen to boost soybean cultivation

Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov signed a decree on measures to further increase soybean production in the country.

The document reads that in 2017 the sown area of soybean was 12,000 hectares, and the output hit 14,000 tons. About 2,000 tons of soybean oil was supplied to population, while poultry enterprises received 10,000 tons of edible soybean meal.

"To get rich harvest in 2018, a land area of 18,500 hectares was allocated for soybean planting, and 37.740 billion soums were issued for advance payments of 50 percent of the future harvest value. In addition, 15 farms specializing in soybean cultivation have been defined," the document reads.

The relevant government agencies were tasked to properly follow the instructions.

The document came into force on Feb.14.

Soybean is one of the most important leguminous crops and ranks fourth after to rice, wheat and maize in terms of world crop production. The United States leads the world in soybean production at approximately 32 percent of the total global output.
