Clusters for collection and processing of waste will be established in nine cities of Uzbekistan.

Issues related to the creation of clusters and organization of work on the utilization of household waste, introduction of incentive mechanisms for legal entities and individuals involved in the collection, disposal or recycling of unused plastic, polyethylene and other packaging materials were discussed at the State Committee for Ecology Protection and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan.

The meeting was attended by entrepreneurs engaged in recycling and sorting of solid household waste in Uzbekistan.

It was noted at the meeting that in 2018 clusters for collection and processing of wastes will be created in nine cities of the country, as well as task was set to develop a "road map" for concluding agreements with investors, preparing documentation and financing the implementation of waste management projects in the Ferghana Valley, Djizzak, Syrdarya and Tashkent regions.

The issue of opening a service center of the Chinese company Beston to provide service to technological equipment installed at the enterprises within the clusters for sorting and processing waste was also discussed.

Last year, Uzbekistan improved the public administration system in ecology and environmental protection in accordance with the presidential decree, dated April 21, 2017.

In particular, the Uzbek State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection has been charged with broad tasks to improve the environmental situation, collect, store, transport and recycle household waste.

A comprehensive program was also adopted to improve household waste management in 2017-2021. In 2017, 305 sites for waste collection were created.

However, almost all villages do not have any system for collecting, storing and transporting household waste.
