Farmers in Turkmenistan's Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces have launched cotton sowing, the Turkmen State News Agency (TDH) reported.
Farmers in the Dashoguz province will join them on March 28.
Last year, more than 1.1 million tons of raw cotton were harvested.
Some 545,000 hectares of land was allocated for cotton. It is planned to harvest a total of 1.050 million tons of cotton, including 207,000 tons in the Akhal province, 230,000 tons in the Dashoguz province, 300,000 tons in the Lebap province, and 313,000 tons in the Mary province.
More than 7,000 tractors of different brands, more than 2,100 seeders, more than 5,000 cotton cultivators and other agricultural machinery will be involved in the sowing campaign.
Cotton makes up a weighty part of Turkmenistan's exports and it is a sought-after raw material for dozens of modern enterprises in the country's dynamically developing textile industry.
