Trend:

March holidays in Kazakhstan did not result in sharp jumps in food prices, Kazinform reported on March 30 citing energyprom.kz.

At the end of March 2018, a noticeable rise in food prices for the month was noted only for some off-season fresh fruits and vegetables. Cucumbers rose in price by 6.1 percent, tomatoes by 3.3 percent, cabbage by 2.7 percent, potatoes by 2.1 percent, carrots by 1.3 percent.

Bananas rose in price by 4.8 percent, apples increased by 2.4 percent. Other fruits and vegetables either did not increase in price by more than 1 percent per month, or fell in price (for example, garlic and oranges).

Previously, Prime Minister Bakytzhan Sagintayev instructed the regional administrations to strengthen control over the unjustified increase in food prices, taking into account the holidays.
