By Ilkin Shafiyev – Trend:

Realization of the North-South Transport Corridor will significantly contribute to development of the bilateral economic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, Russia’s trade representative in Azerbaijan Eldar Tlyabichev told Trend.

"Russia and Azerbaijan are jointly working on developing the North-South Transport Corridor, and this project has a significant potential to increase the cargo flow. In this regard, we see good prospects for Azerbaijan as a major transport and logistics hub," he said.

Implementation of such major infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan will only contribute to the development of close partnership between Moscow and Baku, Tlyabichev said.

The International North-South Transport Corridor is meant to connect Northern Europe with Southeast Asia. It will serve as a link connecting the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. At the initial stage, it is planned to transport 5 million tons of cargo per year through the corridor and over 10 million tons of cargo in the future.
