Baku, Azerbaijan, May 3
By Ilkin Shafiyev – Trend:
Azerbaijani wine producer Agro-Azerinvest LLC intends to greatly increase export of wine to Kyrgyzstan, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Wine Producers and Exporters Association Elchin Madatov told Trend May 3.
"The company supplied the first batch of wine and cognac to Kyrgyzstan in January, which is about 10 tons of products worth $30,000," he added. “The company intends to increase these volumes by 5-6 times by the end of the year."
“Presently, Azerbaijani wine producers are negotiating with importers from Kazakhstan and are conducting research in the Uzbek market,” Madatov said. “The plans also include expansion of export of wine to the Baltic countries.”
"In general, we would like to get in 2018 positive export dynamics, as we managed to do in 2017,” he said. “The first quarter of this year was very successful for us and we achieved the desired results. However, the April devaluation of the ruble and the fall of the yuan to the dollar slightly changed our forecasts, because Russia and China are our main export markets."
According to the State Program for Winemaking Development in 2018-2025, approved by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on May 3, the country intends to increase wine exports fivefold by 2025.
Over 1 million decaliters of wine products were produced in Azerbaijan in 2017, 375,000 decaliters of which were exported. Azerbaijan mainly exports its wine to Russia (338,000 decalitres) and China (27,000 decaliters).
