Azerbaijan records rise in production of agricultural products

The agricultural production value stood at 1.18 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-April 2018, which is by 3.5 percent more than in the same period last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

In the reporting period, plant growing increased by 20.2 percent (to 65.5 million manats), while livestock production – by 2.8 percent (to 1.12 million manats).

During the reporting period, planting of spring crops continued in most districts of Azerbaijan.

As of May 1, 49,600 hectares were allocated for cereals and legumes, including 17,600 hectares for fodder corn, 53,900 hectares for potatoes, 47,800 hectares for vegetables, 14,100 hectares for melon crops, 8,300 hectares for sugar beet, 7,700 hectares for sunflower, 1,300 hectares for tobacco, 82,300 hectares for cotton, 48,900 hectares for perennial grasses, 1,100 hectares for annual grasses and 3,200 hectares for other spring crops.

According to the report, 11,500 tons of potatoes and 89,000 tons of vegetables were harvested in the first quarter of 2018, which is 16 percent and 25.5 percent, respectively, more than in the same period of 2017.

Besides, 161,300 tons of meat, 636,800 tons of milk, 579.6 million eggs and 1,570 tons of wool were produced in Azerbaijan in January-April 2018. Compared to January-April 2017, production of meat grew 3.7 percent, milk - by one percent, eggs - by 03 percent, while wool production fell by 8.9 percent.
