French company to improve water, heat supply system in Uzbekistan

French company Veolia will improve the water and heat supply systems in Uzbekistan, the Finance Ministry of Uzbekistan said on July 13.

Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister Jamshid Kuchkarov received a delegation of Veolia headed by the company’s Vice President Malika Genduria.

During the talks, a pilot project on introduction of a comprehensive energy services management system, a project on uninterrupted provision of heat in the city of Namangan and a feasibility study of water supply system modernization projects in Tashkent were presented.

In early June 2018 the State Investments Committee of Uzbekistan announced that Uzbekistan and Spain will cooperate in energy, transport, water supply and solid waste management spheres.

Later the same month Senior Director of the World Bank for Water Affairs, Guang Zhe Chen paid a two-day visit to Uzbekistan to deepen cooperation with the country’s government in the field of water resources management.

During his visit, the sides assessed the existing portfolio of World Bank projects aimed at expanding the coverage and quality of water supply and sanitation services, and improving irrigation efficiency in Uzbekistan.

Several days later Director of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Representative Office in Uzbekistan, Takeo Konishi announced that the ADB is planning to allocate a loan to Uzbekistan to improve work of the energy sector.
