Azerbaijan sees rise in agricultural products output

The agricultural production value stood at 4.1 billion manats in Azerbaijan in January-July 2018, which is by 6.5 percent more than in the same period last year, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

In the reporting period, plant growing increased by 11 percent (to 2.01 billion manats), while livestock production – by 2.5 percent (to 2.09 billion manats).

During the reporting period, harvesting of spring crops continued in Azerbaijan.

As of early August, nearly 3 million tons of grain and legumes (excluding corn) were harvested from the fields. Some 29.2 centners of products were harvested from each hectare of the territory. In addition, 14,000 tons of corn were harvested from the territory of 3,100 hectares in the reporting period.

Besides, 534,200 tons of potatoes (1.5 percent growth for the year), 925,700 tons of vegetables (15.6 percent growth for the year), 308,100 tons of melons (decrease of 1.1 percent), 207,400 tons of fruits and berries (a 2.7 percent growth), 4,200 tons of grapes (a 2.1 percent growth), 535.2 tons of tea leaves (an increase of 20.5 percent for the year), 2,100 tons of tobacco (an increase of 5.7 percent) and 1,800 tons of sunflower were harvested in January-July 2018.

Besides, 280,800 tons of meat, 1,199,400 tons of milk, 1,022.4 million eggs and 14,700 tons of wool were produced in Azerbaijan in January-July 2018. Compared to January-July 2017, production of meat grew 3 percent, milk – 1.2 percent, eggs - 0.7 percent, while wool production fell by 1.4 percent.

In addition, 514 tons of silkworm cocoons were produced in the country during the reporting period, which is 2.1 times more than last year. This is the highest indicator of silkworm cocoon production in Azerbaijan for the past 20 years.
