Tehran, Iran, Oct. 22

Trend:

The head of Iran-Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce said Tehran and Baku have signed an initial agreement to construct a 4-kilometer railway, which would link Aslanduz District in Ardabil Province to the district of Tazekand in Parsabad.

The rail project will be finalized after two months, Behrouz Poursoleiman told ILNA on October 22.

The rail link will facilitate the transportation of goods between the two countries from Aslanduz to the city of Horadiz in the Fuzuli Rayon of Azerbaijan.

The official said Iran is seeking to target markets in Azerbaijan, Russia, and even Europe.

“Head of Azerbaijan Railways Javid Gurbanov has implicitly given okay for the project,” Poursoleiman said.

He said the rail could play a key role in boosting trade ties between the two counties.

On July 30, Iran invited Azerbaijan to join a new railway that links the border town of Parsabad in Iran's Ardabil Province to Mugan plain in northwestern Iran and the southern part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The highest density of irrigation canals is in the section of the Mugan plain which lies in the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is located on the bank of the Araz river extending to Iran.
