A new seed processing plant in Azerbaijan's Khachmaz district will be put into operation during the first two months of 2019, Head of the State Seed Fund Emin Aliyev told Trend.

The head of the Fund noted that a system of elevators and sines is currently being installed at the plant.

"The goal of the plant is to process grains (mainly wheat) and oilseeds. The new plant has modern equipment of foreign production, which will provide high-quality processing - up to five tons of grain per hour. In our opinion, this is a fairly high figure, which will meet the domestic demand and also allow to stock up on high-quality seeds for the next year. At the same time, we envisage the export of seeds in certain volumes," Aliyev said.

It is expected that, in 2019, three more plants with a capacity of 7,500 tons will be put into operation, Aliyev added.

"Azerbaijan’s annual need for seeds is 120,000 tons. New plants will provide 5 percent of the domestic demand," Aliyev said.
