By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

In January-September 2018, Kazakhstan’s ports of Aktau and Kuryk handled 3.9 million tons of marine export cargo, First Vice Minister of Investment and Development of Kazakhstan Roman Sklyar told Trend.

This is an increase of 39 percent compared to the same period last year (2.8 million tons).

"For the first 9 months of 2018, more than 60 million tons of export freight were transported by rail in Kazakhstan, which is 5.7 percent more year-on-year (56.8 million tons last year)," Sklyar added.

At the same time, more than 3 million tons of export cargo were transported by road, an increase of 43 percent year-on-year (2.1 million tons last year).

It is worth noting that the development of the transport industry and transit is one of the main directions of Kazakhstan’s Strategic Development Plan until 2020.

The Nurly Zhol state program for infrastructure development envisages achieving the following tasks until 2020: reconstruction and construction of 7,000 kilometers of roads; growth of transit container traffic up to 2 million containers per year, of transit air passenger traffic up to 1.6 million people per year, and of ports’ capacity up to 24 million tons per year.
