By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Construction of concrete water tanks in Iran can be justified for economic reasons, said Mohammad Haj-Rasouliha, managing director of Iran Water Resources Management Company, Trend reports via IRNA.

Presently, 22 large concrete water tanks are being built in Iran, he added.

He said that 40 percent of 172 large and small water tanks are made of concrete in Iran. In these reservoirs, 51-52 billion cubic meters of fresh water can be stored, he noted.

Rasouliha added that Iran, just like other developing economies, should use quality concrete in construction.

Increasing population and decrease in rainfall necessitated transporting water to some parts of the country, he said, noting that it is possible to use tools made of concrete to prevent water loss.

“We need to develop water tanks and water transport projects,” he added. “Due to water shortage, we have to use waste water and seawater. We have to pay serious attention to the chemical reactions of these waters with concrete.”
