Food prices rising in Kazakhstan

Prices for food products in Kazakhstan in February 2019 increased by 6.6 percent compared to February 2018, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

According to the Statistics Committee of the National Economy Ministry of Kazakhstan, bakery products and cereals, meat, fish and seafood, dairy products, eggs, oils and fats, sugar, confectionery, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages rose in price in the period, while fruit and vegetables became cheaper.

In particular, the average price for rice in February 2019 was 323 tenge ($0.86) per kilogram against 287 tenge ($0.76) in the same month last year, and for buckwheat - 243 tenge ($0.64) against 287 tenge ($0.76), respectively.

The average price of granulated sugar this February was 236 tenge ($0.63) per kilogram, 195 tenge ($0.52) a year earlier.

As for dairy products, the average price for cottage cheese in February this year was 1,579 tenge per kilogram ($4.18) against 1,511 tenge ($4) in February 2018, and for sour cream - 1,050 tenge ($2.78) against 994 tenge ($2.63).

At the same time, the price of rennet cheese was 2,565 tenge ($6.8) against 2,255 tenge ($5.97), and pasteurized milk - 239 tenge ($0.63) against 216 tenge ($0.57) in February last year.
