Agricultural exports of Iran's Mazandaran province doubles

Agricultural exports of Iran's Mazandaran province has increased, an official with Mazandaran Agricultural Jihad Organization Soleyman Hatamnejad said, Trend reports via IRNA.

In the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), Mazandaran has so far exported agricultural products worth 16.3 trillion (roughly $389 million), Hatamnejad said.

For comparison, in the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2017 - March 20, 2018), the total value of Mazandaran's agricultural exports had reached only 7.92 trillion rials (roughly $188 million), he added.

In the current year, 267,000 tons of agricultural products have been exported, which is 65 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, he said.

In the previous Iranian year, the province's exports of citruses amounted 45,000 tons with the value of 620 million rials (roughly $14,700), but in the current year the exports of citruses soared to 2.47 trillion rial (roughly $58.8 million) in terms of value.

During the first 11 months of the current Iranian year, 2.49 trillion rials (roughly $59.2 million) worth 62,000 tons of kiwi fruit were exported from Mazandaran, Hatamnejadi said. However, in the previous year, only 2,000 tons of kiwi fruit were exported, he added.

Fish and seafood exports of Mazandaran have also increased from 40 billion rials (roughly $952,000) to 110 billion rials (roughly $2.16 million) in terms of value, and from 2,450 tons to 60,000 tons in terms of weight, Hatamnejadi said.

He further noted that dairy exports reached 120,000 tons in terms of weight and 1.38 trillion rials (roughly $32.8 million) in terms of value, while the exports of flowers and various plants reached 877 tons and 100 billion (roughly $23,800).

Hatamnejad noted that Mazandaran's agricultural products are mainly exported to Iraq, Afghanistan and some CIS countries.
