Iran to explore capacities of northern and southern ports

The priorities of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) is to reduce the cargo residues at the customs and use the potential of the southern and northern ports in new Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).

Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran Mohammad Rastad has discussed the priorities of the organization in hisnew year message, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"The organization had made investments in ports and hinterlands, installing technical equipment. The recent example was equipping Chabahar and Shahid Rajaee ports’ docks and increasing the container capacities of the two ports,” the statement said.

Rastad noted that Iran ended the last year(started March 21, 2018) with all its challenges and economic obstacles that were due to the unilateral sanctions by the US.

“The organization had big achievements during this period, including reviving Chabahar corridor and attracting global investors to transit via Chabahr oceanic port,” he added.

He noted that PMO plans for the new year include cargo sediment, using the capacities of northern and southern ports, creating production units, assigning small ports to private sectors, cancelling unnecessary and costly processes, ensuring maritime tourism growth, evolving the firefighting fleet, modernizing the fleet.

"The Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran seeks to implement the Sixth Development Plan and administrating the process of creating smart ports, improving the welfare of locals near the ports,” he added.
