Huawei and other Chinese companies to invest over $1 B in development of IT in Uzbekistan

Chinese companies Huawei and CITIC Guoan Information Technology plan to invest over $ 1 billion in the development of Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure, Trend reports with reference to Uzbek media.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev negotiated this initiative at a meeting with Chinese companies during his visit to China. The head of state emphasized the need to develop proposals to accelerate the Safe City project and facilitate implementation of the Smart City system with the participation of Huawei and other leading Chinese manufacturers and financial institutions.

It is planned that Chinese companies will invest $300 million in the first phase of the Safe City project. By the end of 2020, the total volume of investments may be brought to $1 billion. These funds will be used to develop e-government, digital economy, information technology, telemedicine and IT telephony.

Furthermore, Ministry for the Development of Information Technologies of Uzbekistan was instructed to study, together with mobile operators, the options for promotion of Huawei’s 5G technologies in the country as part of the development and modernization of the Uzmobile and Ucel networks.
