The Shahid Rajaee port, located in Iran’s southern Hormozgan Province, will be provided with new equipment within the next 2 months, Mohammad Rastad, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization, told Tasnim News Agency, Trend reports.

According to Rastad, the Shahid Rajaee port will be provided with 12 rubber tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.

Rastad added that projects are being implemented for the development of ports.

"Despite the restrictions and difficult conditions, there is active movement in and out of the Iranian ports, and this potential can make it easier for Iran to achieve its economic goals," he said.

Stating that the expansion of container terminal number 3 of the Shahid Rajaee port is being carried out, Rastad added that the 1st phase of the terminal is expected to be completed by the end of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).

He went on to say that work is being carried out for upgrading the port’s container terminal number 2.

Rastad added that the Ports and Maritime Organization is interested in private sector's investments and can reduce its share of activity so as to facilitate more activity in this sector.
