Kyrgyzstan becomes number one consumer of fruits, vegetables from Uzbekistan

Kyrgyzstan has become the largest consumer of Uzbek fruits and vegetables in the first five months of this year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the Committee, in January-May 2019, a third of fruits and vegetables (in value terms) was shipped from Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan (34.600 tons of agricultural products worth $161 million).

Kazakhstan became the second largest consumer. In five months, 218,900 tons of vegetables and fruits were exported to this country in a total amount of $107.1 million and with a share of 22.9 percent of total exports. For the same period last year, almost half (47.4 percent) of fruits from Uzbekistan were shipped to Kazakh consumers.

Russia took the 3rd place with 92,100 tons of imported products worth $48.9 million.

The five largest consumers of Uzbek fruits and vegetables also included Ukraine and Afghanistan. Ukraine exported 43,200 tons of fruits and vegetables in the amount of $26 million, and Afghanistan purchased 19, 900 tons for $20.4 million.

The Statistics Committee stressed that out of fruits and vegetables, more than 485,000 tons of vegetables (physical growth increased by 142.3 percent) worth $ 266.9 million and 107,800 tons of fruits and berries (physical volume increased by 13.1 percent) in the amount of $199.9 million were exported.
