A plant producing intermodal containers (can be used across different modes of transport) has been commissioned in Savojbolagh county of Iran's Alborz province, Iranian Roads and Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami said at the opening ceremony of the plant, Trend reports via IRNA.

After the commission, 100 containers will be produced per day and handed over to the freight transportation system of Iran, Eslami said.

The minister stressed that the produced containers can be used across different types of transport – from ship to rail to truck.

Eslami added that in the early stages of US sanctions, other countries removed 85,000 containers from Iran's sea shipping system.

At present, amidst sanctions, Iran is meeting its needs at the expense of domestic production, the minister added.

The US imposed the sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and then expanded the list of sanctions in several stages.

There are about 1,000 production and processing facilities operating in Savojbolagh county of Alborz province.
