Major Kazakh, Russian cities eye to strengthen cooperation

Major Kazakhstan’s city Almaty and Russia’s St Petersburg have agreed to develop roadmap for cooperation in area of healthcare, education, tourism, culture, as well as between small and medium business, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the Almaty’s akimat.

This was announced within the framework of the visit of Russian delegation headed by Member of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly of the 6th Convocation Oleg Kapitanov to Almaty.

According to the Deputy Head of Almaty Yerzhan Babakumarov, Kazakhstan and Russia are linked by very specific historical relationship.

“Almaty and St. Petersburg could play a great role in strengthening relations between our countries. And today we can give an additional impulse to further cooperation,” Babakumarov said.

In his turn, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Almaty Yevgeny Bobrov said that Kazakhstan and Russia should deepen joint work. He noted that Almaty and St. Petersburg have a number of similarities, and Russian cooperation with Almaty is very strong. The value of trade turnover between Russia and Almaty amounted to $4.7 billion in 2018.

Furthermore, within the framework of the visit, priorities of trade and economic cooperation, prospects of cooperation and implementation of joint projects in the system of preschool and secondary vocational education were discussed.
