Producer Price Index for industrial products decreases in Georgia

Producer Price Index for Industrial Products (PPI) decreased by 0.3 percent in October 2019 in Georgia compared to September 2019, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

In October 2019, the prices for manufactured products fell by 0.4 percent compared to September 2019, resulting in a -0.35 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change.

Within the group, noteworthy price decrease was registered for basic metals and fabricated metal products (1.8 percent), said the committee.

For electrical energy, gas, stream and hot water prices went up by 1 percent, contributing 0.11 percentage points to the overall monthly index growth.

Meanwhile, compared to October 2018 the index increased by 9.2 percent.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by the price changes of manufactured products: the prices increased by 9.7 percent, contributing 7.8 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.

There was an increase in the prices for food products, beverages and tobacco (10.5 percent), pulp, paper and paper products (38.2 percent), also for basic metals and fabricated metal products (6.8 percent).

Compared to October 2018, the prices on products from mining and quarrying increased by 16.7 percent in October 2019, contributing 1.09 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.

The prices on electrical energy, gas, steam and hot water went up by 2 percent and contributed 0.27 percentage points to the overall annual PPI change.
