Construction of an electric motor plant has begun in Georgian Kutaisi, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

Aigroup, which builds the plant, will produce electric vehicles, designed by local designer Zviad Tsikolia with the inscription Made in Georgia.

In the future, the plant will be developed into an industrial complex. After the commissioning, the complex will employ about 3,000 people.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the production of first electric cars under a Georgian trademark was signed between Georgia's Aigroup and China's Changan Corporation, which has a track record of 157 years in the industry, in May 2019.

Kakha Guledani said it was decided to build an electric car manufacturing company in Kutaisi based on the traditions of local auto production.

According to him, initially Chinese Changan models will be introduced into production, and the work on the electric cars designed by Zviad Tsikolia will begin in parallel.
