BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 5

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran has produced 320,000 tons of pistachios in the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2019), an official with Iran's Agricultural Jihad Ministry Darab Hasani said, Trend reports with reference to the ministry's website.

According to the official, the pistachio harvest has increased compared to the previous Iranian year (from March 21, 2018, to March 21, 2019).

Hasani noted that 100,000 tons of pistachios were harvested in the Kerman province. In terms of pistachio output, Kerman ranks the first among Iranian provinces and is followed by Razavi Khorasan, Yazd, Fars, South Khorasan, Semnan, Markazi and Qom provinces.

The economic viability of pistachios resulted in the cultivation and development of this product in the western and northwestern provinces of Iran, including Ilam, Kermanshah, Kurdistan, East Azerbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Hamadan, Lorestan, Zanjan and Ardabil, Hasani said.

The ministry official underlined that Iran ranks first in the world in pistachio production.

According to estimates, this Iranian year, the country will export over 150,000 tons of pistachios, Hasani said.

The increase in production will result in securing markets around the world and, consequently, increased revenues.

According to the Agricultural Jihad Ministry, in the first seven months (from March 21 to Oct. 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, Iran exported 33,700 tons of pistachios for $291 million.
