Iran as a member state of International North-South Transport Corridor will link the Caspian states to the Central Asian nations to boost trade relations between Caspian Sea littoral states in north and the Central Asian countries in the south, Iranian Minister of Trade, Mine and Industry Reza Rahmani said, Trend reports via IRNA.
Rahmani made the remark at the 18th meeting of Iran-Oman Joint Economic Committee that kicked off in Tehran.
The International North-South Transport Corridor is a sea, rail and road route expected to facilitate and boost exchange of goods between India, Russia, Iran, Europe and the Central Asian states.
At the commission meeting, Rahmani expressed hope that this economic event will be taken as an opportunity for reviewing new capacities for maximum development of bilateral cooperation.
In the presence of the Omani delegation in Tehran, Iranian minister said that the Omani delegation is one of the top-ranking delegations coming to Iran over the past several years.
“Iran-Oman trade volume can increase up to $5 billion from its current $1 billion,” Rahmani said addressing the 18th Iran-Oman Joint Economic Committee meeting.
The minister also expressed hope for further cooperation between the two sides’ private sectors in the future.
“Iran considers Oman not only as a trade partner but as an important player in regional issues,” Rahmani said.
“We can move forward via cooperation with Oman to expand ties with our neighbors, Arab countries, in the region and those in North Africa,” the minister added.
Rahmani and Omani Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy took part in the 18th Iran-Oman Joint Economic Committee meeting.
Trade, investment, industry, chambers of commerce, free zones, the environment, electricity and gas are common areas of cooperation between Iran and Oman.
