As many as 14,000 tons of apples were exported from Iran’s West Azerbaijan province during the eight Iranian months (March 21 – November 21) of this Iranian year (began March 21, 2019), said Mohammad Dehghan, deputy chairman of the West Azerbaijan Province Industry, Mine and Trade Organization, Trend reports via Mehr.
Dehghan noted that these products were mainly exported to Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.
The deputy chairman added that there are 750,000 tons of apples in the province’s warehouses, and most of it can be exported.
Dehghan said that the export of goods through the border markets of the province increased by 146 percent in value compared to the same period of last year and by 20 percent in weight in the first eight months.
“In the eight months, 483,000 tons of products worth $698 million were exported through the provincial border markets,” the deputy chairman noted.
Dehghan said that 70,000 tons of goods worth $445 million were imported through the border markets over the same period, and these imports increased by 258 percent in terms of weight and by 293 percent in value terms compared to the same period last year.
The deputy chairman added that 333,000 tons of goods worth $445 million were imported through the customs of the West Azerbaijan province for the eight months. This indicates a 46 percent increase in weight compared to the same period last year and a 59 percent increase in value.
