By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
Georgia’s TBC research center expects monetary policy easing to 8 percent by 2020, Trend reports citing a study on basic macroeconomic forecasts for 2020.
As reported, this year, purely economic factors could give an increase of 5 percent, but the real figure will be 4.5 percent due to parliamentary elections.
“Inflation will return to the target in the second half of 2020. Based on the fact that the national currencies of neighboring countries generally remain stable against the dollar, we expect the lari to strengthen to the level of 2.75 lari per dollar,” the TBC research study says.
The activity of the National Bank is also expected in terms of currency interventions in the market. In this case, if the national currency strengthens and inflation levels stabilize, it is expected that the National Bank will start buying foreign currency to replenish reserves.
