There is an urgent need to launch ferry ship on Bushehr-Qatar route to develop export and tourism, said vice president of Iran-Qatar joint Chamber of Commerce.

"There is a need to increase the exports to Qatar, and container ships are important for this," said Khorshid Gozderazi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The grand ferry cargo and passenger ship has been harbored at Bushehr Port since June 2019. The 144-meter-long ship has 500 beds, 250 rooms and 1,300 seats in five passenger classes.

"Considering the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, the ship with capacity of transporting 2,000 passengers should be used in Iran and Qatar tourism sector," the vice president added.

"However, the current price for the fuel for the ship is 70,000 rials per liter; considering the volume of fuel consumption, it is not profitable to use the ship for exports or passenger transportation," Gozderazi said.

"While a cruise ship is active in Bushehr port, no subside fuel has been assigned to the ship," he added.

"Considering the sanctions, the tourism and export sectors are important for Iran. Qatar's per capita income is very high, so there are more demands for luxury goods. Iran should use this opportunity, and Bushehr Chamber of Commerce has offered some suggestions," the official said.

"The southern ports in Iran including Bushehr port can be used for cargo transportation from Eurasia and other countries," he said.
