Trend:

Iran has unloaded 1.5 million tons of basic goods in its ports since the beginning of the new Iranian year (March 20, 2020), said the Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization.

"Total of 3.3 million tons of cargo have been unloaded in country's port during Iranian new year holiday, and 1.5 million tons of this volume accounts for basic goods," said Mohammad Rastad, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

"During this period, the country has exported 800,000 tons of non-oil goods and imported 1.4 million tons of non-oil goods; 270 ships have imported goods to Iran during coronavirus spread," Rastad said.

"Imam Khomeini Port was the main hub that stored 1.5 million tons of imported goods, while 1.7 million tons were unloaded at Shahid Rajaee Port, 204,000 tons - at Amirabad Port, and 105,000 tons were unloaded in Bushehr Port," the managing director added.

"Iran Railway Company has directly transferred imported grain from ships to wagons at Shahid Rajaee Port that has reduced the transportation costs," he said adding that despite the sanctions against shipping and sea transportation, the country unloaded 150 million tons of goods in its ports in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), which shows 6-percent growth comparing to the previous year (began March 21, 2018).

"The shipping activities in last Iranian year have also increased 25 percent, while the import of non-oil cargos including basic goods increased by 8 percent," he said.
