The area of medicinal plants increased by 793 hectares in Semnan province (northern Iran) last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), said Lotfollah Rezai, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture, Trend reports citing IRNA.
According to Rezai, the area was 2,459 hectares in the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019) and this figure exceeded 3,000 hectares last Iranian year.
Rezai added that the province grows 45 types of medicinal plants, including saffron, Damask rose, cumin, pepper, fennel flower, sesame, barberries, garlic and others.
"Cumin is one of the most important medicinal plants in Iran due to its low demand for water. Thus, the export of this medicinal plant can increase Iran's income," he said.
As many as 198,000 hectares of Iran's Semnan province are agricultural areas.
