Turkmenistan reveals volume of sugar beet be harvested

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 2

Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as the municipal administrations of the Balkan and Mary regions should ensure the production of sugar beet in these areas, said a decree signed by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan State News Agency.

For the production of sugar beet in the Mary and Balkan regions, 17,900 hectares of land have been allocated, from which 224,000 tons of sugar beet are expected to be harvested. In the Balkan region, 3,000 hectares of land were allocated for the products, and it is planned to produce 24,000 tons of beet. In the Mary region, 200,000 tons of crops is expected to harvest from 14,000 hectares of land alocated for the production.

Earlier, the head of state ordered to expand the area for the cultivation of vegetables and melons and gourds in the country, as well as to increase their production to reduce the import of agricultural products.

The president stressed that country should strengthen the work on introduction of the electronic control system in Turkmenistan's agro-industrial complex to improve their production and achieve sustainable development of the industry.
