Iran announces volume of chromite produced in Semnan province

About 20,000 tons of chromite are extracted annually in Semnan province in northern Iran, said Mohammad Foruhar, deputy head of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization’s branch in Semnan province, Trend reports citing the organization’s official website.

According to Foruhar, there are 7 chromite mines on chromite extraction in Semnan province.

Foruhar added that Semnan province owns 20 percent of the chromite extracted in Iran.

The official said that there are 84 mines in Semnan province. Some 39 of them are fully operational and 45 are being equipped.

Foruhar said that about 42 types of mining materials are extracted in the province.

"More than 23 million tons of mining materials are extracted annually from the mines in Semnan province," he said.

Iran has 50 billion tons of mining reserves. This figure is expected to reach 60 billion tons in the current Iranian year (began from March 20, 2020).
